Get Involved
Kingston Common Futures wouldn’t be a community-driven fund, without community members like you. Together, we can create a vibrant ecosystem that funds local projects and strengthens our networks of support.
Support
Have some skills that would be helpful to applicants? Maybe you’re familiar with the grant process, or have experience in writing, timelines, and budgets. Lots of folks with great ideas have never applied for a grant before! And many folks who have applied for grants or opportunities in the past have struggled to receive funding.
How can we make an application process that is accessible to lots of people? Kingston Common Futures seeks volunteers to support applicants in a more equitable process. Whether you have a lot of time, or are just available for a couple hours, we’re excited for you to be a part of our network of support!
- Volunteer at one of our events
- Mentor applicants through the application process
- Connect applicants with relevant community groups and resources
Get involved in any of these 3 roles:
Reader: Review & Score Letters of Intent
Meet other community members to learn about the Letter of Intent Criteria, and either join one of our reading parties to review and score letters, or complete them on your own. Each LOI will be read by 2 Readers.
- Estimated Time Commitment: 5 hours
- When You'll Be Needed: April-May
Reader: Review & Score Full Applications
Meet other community members to learn how to apply our scorecard to applications, and either join one of our reading parties to review and score applications, or complete them on your own. Each Application will be read by 3-5 Readers.
- Estimated Time Commitment: 8 hours
- When You'll Be Needed: May-June
Selection Jury
The Selection Jury is a vetted group of community members who will make final funding decisions after reviewing 25 finalist applications, interviewing the finalist teams, and then discussing as a group. Note: *To serve on the Final Jury, you may not volunteer as a Reader or Mentor in the same funding cycle.
- Estimated Time Commitment: 20-25 hours
- When You'll Be Needed: June-July
Decide
What is special about Kingston Common Futures? The community gets to decide what gets funded! We are seeking about 20 volunteers from the Kingston community to be a part of the decision-making process.
By being a part of this process, you are not only helping allocate funding to support local projects, you are getting connected to other folks in the community and engaging in the essential practice of shared community decision-making.
